I just visited Yulin (where the infamous annual Dog Meat Festival is held). It was my 17th visit to Yulin. and thanks to our donors' support of our work there 365 days a year (#Yulin365), I am thrilled to report the many positive changes that are taking place there.
For one, I didn't see any dog meat stands on BingJiang Street, whereas on previous trips (before Covid), I saw four or five.
Also, when I visited the recently renovated "Shi-Zi" street - a trendy hot spot for cool people typically much younger than me :) - I walked the whole place and didn't see a single dog meat restaurant!
What I DID see were many new pet stores and pet grooming businesses that have popped up since my last Yulin trip.
In fact, next to Shi-Zi Street, a progressive shopping district (called Y-Park) is being developed with plans for a pet section, dog park, and pet stores.
Of course, there are still quite a few dog meat restaurants hidden in the dark corners, but I couldn't help but feel hopeful.
My dear friend - together, we are changing hearts and minds and driving real, lasting, cultural change that will save a lot of dogs and cats from the meat trade.
YOUR kind gift that will help us take the next big step toward ending the dog and cat meat trade!
Happy holidays!
With gratitude,
Andrea
