Dear supporters: Thank you so much for supporting our movement to "end the Yulin dog meat festival and trade." For this year, the heinous "festival" has come and gone. We continue to seek a meeting with the mayor of Yulin and local officials. Our goal is to encourage them to end the practice of eating dog meat in Yulin as a means to improve their public image, and seek more humane, sustainable ways for local people to make a living. We know this is difficult. But with your support, over 3 million signatures, we are in a stronger position than perhaps any other group in this battle. We are a formidable army for our animal friends. We do have some good news to share. Business at this year's event went way down, according to the feedback we've received from our allies on the ground in Yulin. Based on the number of dog meat vendors, the wholesale price and the number of customers, the 2018 "festival" was the smallest yet. And local police have actually begun to show some support on cracking down on this trade. Our friends in Yulin sent us this photo to show Yulin police officers towing away illegally parked scooters in front of the most popular dog meat restaurant today. This is the first time ever that the police have taken this action. To change a century-old habit is not easy. It takes time and strategy. Our strategy at Duo Duo Project was developed after we started to meet and build relationships with people from all walks of life in Yulin, starting in 2014. We wanted to know how and why people continued to eat dog meat, and we wanted to know what would be required to end it. This promises to be a long and hard battle. But luckily the larger Chinese population, as well as Yulin's youngest generation, are on our side. By working together, East and West, we are confident that we can win this war.
