End the Uncertainty for WWCC’s Academic Department Heads
The Issue
In the name of decency, transparency, and due process, we call on the State of Maryland’s Public Employee Relations Board (PERB) to issue an immediate and final ruling on whether academic “department heads” who teach and serve at Wor-Wic Community College are, or are not, deemed “faculty” for the purposes of collective bargaining.
No Marylander employed in education, during the worst national teacher shortage in a generation, should have their life, their family, and their career held in limbo for 8+ months, unsure of whether they are classified by their school and their state as “staff,” “faculty,” or “administration.”
We respectfully appeal to Public Employee Relations Board Chair Michael Hayes, and Executive Director Erica L. Snipes, to recognize the gravity and moral clarity of this moment by rectifying this matter immediately, regardless of their final determination.
