As volunteers all across PEI Fight to keep our foxes alive as whole fox families are showing up infected with Sarcoptic Mange,  it’s our responsibility to help them by putting  an end to the Trapping and Hunting of our Provincial Animal. 

Trapping and Hunting is supposed to be used as a form of conservation and as we watch our foxes dying we know that this in no way is necessary to be continued. 

Our PEI Foxes have all the predators they need as coyotes and Eagles stalk their dens and kill their young as well as adult foxes. 

Foxes are hit by cars constantly as our population is rapidly increasing and our roads and highways become busier every day. 

Leaving our Fur Bearing Wildlife to suffer with Sarcoptic Mange with little to no interaction has caused mange to spread to all areas of our Island and is no longer a “City Problem” as we are led to believe. 

We need to stop turning a blind eye to this and show our Prince Edward Island Government that we care deeply about our Foxes here and do not want to be contributing to their suffering. 

The Past 2021-2022 Trapping and Hunting Season we seen many injured foxes as well as Vixens left with no mates to help the vixen with her Kits in the Spring, there for having litters of kits as large as 5 and ending up with only one kit as that is all she can provide for on her own.  If any are even lucky enough to Survive. 

A vixen will kill her own kits to help to feed her other kits when this happens as she can not provide for them all on her own. 

Many of us are very aware how the Trapping and Hunting of our Island Foxes is strictly done for Sport and the use of the fur on their backs. 

The Life span of most PEI Foxes is now from 9months to three years and we do not see many making it to the three year mark. 

Trappers and Hunters are targeting our kits as they have the most beautiful coats and worth more when selling their pelts.
