Dorothy Lane, an Ohio-based grocery store with three locations (in Dayton, Springboro, and Washington Township) have been selling rabbit meat to their customers.

Rabbits are the third most popular companion animal after dogs and cats. Like other pets, they form strong bonds with humans and have individual personalities, capable of love, happiness, and suffering. Their close kinship with many of their human companions creates a strong deterrence for many who would otherwise shop at the Dorothy Lane.

In addition, rabbits do not enjoy any protection from the USDA  as “livestock,” so that means that there are no federal requirements for them to be transported safely or slaughtered humanely. Their suffering is immense.

There is no such thing as a "meat rabbit."  The rabbits that are being sold at Dorothy Lane Market are the same as the ones you would find at any pet store or animal rescue.
