End the Practice of Caging Animals in Zoos — Promote Sanctuaries and Wildlife Freedom
The Issue
To
The Hon’ble Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
Government of India, New Delhi
Respected Sir/Madam,
I, the undersigned, appeal to the Government of India to review and gradually phase out the practice of keeping wild animals in captivity for human entertainment in zoos.
Animals are sentient beings that deserve to live in their natural habitats, not in confined cages for display. Visiting zoos for a few minutes of human amusement often means a lifetime of confinement, distress, and loneliness for these creatures.
We request the Ministry to:
Transition existing zoos into open wildlife sanctuaries, rescue centers, or safari-style reserves where animals can roam freely and naturally.
Ban new captive animal enclosures and instead promote eco-tourism and digital education to help citizens learn about wildlife.
Strengthen rehabilitation and release programs for animals already in captivity.
Encourage schools and families to visit sanctuaries and national parks rather than urban zoos.
We believe this step will reflect India’s compassion and commitment to wildlife conservation and humane treatment of all living beings.
Respectfully,
