A policy in Sanger Unified School District prevents students from wearing hats and headphones in class. This is a rule that has a wide impact among the student body. This isn't about defying authority or a fashion statement. It's about the well-being and educational potential of students across not just the district, but Fresno county as a whole.

I have noticed firsthand how a simple baseball cap can provide an individual sense of comfort and belonging, meanwhile headphones can support students’ academic life through protecting them from unnecessary distractions in the classroom. It hits me close to home because as a kid I have always exceeded in my classes by listening to music while studying and completing work in class. It has helped me focus on important assignments and maintain mostly A’s in every class both core and elective. To prove my claim further, a hat is simply just a hat and headphones are just headphones. Nobody should hold out against this. I, as a student at Sanger West, am asking you to sign this petition to help students here in the district access what they need to promote a better school experience.
