Private In-Home Patient Care. A review of this industry and regulation desperately needed.

Dear Minister Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health for Canada, and

Minister Adrian Dix, Minister of Health for British Columbia 

I am writing to you both to request an urgent inquiry into the Private In-Home Patient Care industry. I suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury in April of last year. I am a T4 complete paraplegic who is wheelchair bound and requires assistance getting in and out of bed daily..

I have been home from the hospital since July 16th, 2021. Since then I have experienced the nightmare of uncertain and unqualified homecare. Many of these private companies are understaffed. They also employ unqualified care givers and assign them to patients like me with complex needs. Some of these companies take on clients who they do not have sufficient staff to accommodate.

To date I have employed the services of six different homecare companies in the Victoria with very mixed experiences. The three worst offending companies are Home Care Assistance Victoria, Nurse Next Door and Sidney Senior Care.

Patients are being placed at risk by these unethical profit seeking company owners/franchisees. Urgent action is required.
