Moreover, the troubling fact that these abusive individuals often have unfettered access to children raises critical concerns about child safety as well. This situation intensifies the urgency of addressing the issue at hand: the misuse of mental health claims as an excuse for the unkind, cruel mistreatment of animals.

A significant number of cases have shown that individuals who commit animal abuse attempt to justify their cruel acts as resulting from mental health issues. We must acknowledge the substantial number of individuals struggling with mental health issues, who do not resort to cruelty towards animals or other forms of violence. This unregulated protective shield needs to be shattered and replaced with more effective legal measures ensuring strict punishment for animal cruelty. It eliminates the chance for any individual to use mental health issues as a scapegoat for performing hideous acts against animals.
