I am writing this petition with a heavy heart, having experienced the loss of my beloved dog who was mistaken for a stray. This is not just about my personal loss, but about the countless innocent lives that are taken every day under the guise of controlling stray animal populations. It's estimated that millions of dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters each year due to lack of space or resources (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). This doesn't even account for those killed on our streets due to misconceptions and fear. We need to shift our approach from killing these animals to humane methods such as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, which have been proven effective in managing and reducing stray animal populations without resorting to euthanasia (Humane Society).
