I handed the petition in to No 10 Dowing Street today. Despite the coroner deciding to not report on avoiding future deaths , I hope changes in sentencing will mean that no pregnant woman is given a custodial sentences. 

Guidelines are needed that make clear that pregnant women should not be remanded in custody. The Bail Act 1976 should be further amended to enhance the right to bail for pregnant women.  The Crown Prosecution Service needs to introduce guidance for prosecutors so they pay particular attention to bail for pregnant defendants.  Prisons are never safe places for pregnant women.
