Hello, my name is Donyetta Hill. I am a homeowner and resident in Detroit, Michigan. Over the past few years, my community and I have faced problems with groups of groundhogs. We, as a community, have tried several methods to get rid of the groundhogs, no matter what we do, they continue to return in overwhelming numbers, and it’s not just my community that’s facing this issue its several other communities, its residents all over Detroit that are experiencing this problem; this issue has gotten out of control, and we are running out of options, so it's time we put an end to it together as a city. Our elected officials aren’t paying attention, so this is a call to action to get their attention. We will make them listen! Together, we can stop this groundhog takeover.

These groundhogs are too comfortable in our residential communities; they walk across the streets like stray cats, they will run up on you, they will violate your property, and destroy your home's foundation. Their burrowing creates safety hazards under your home and destroys your gardens, structures, and property. There is no comfort in my yard, front or back; my children are scared to come outside and play because of the invasion of groundhogs; their holes in our yard are like landmines, littered everywhere. You seal one, they dig another one.

We have reached out to many different pest control and animal specialists, and we were told that there is nothing more they can do except trap them. We have reached out to our elected officials and our local media, and they’ve said, “This is not a city issue.” So, what is a city issue? Especially when the whole city is being affected, we will make this their issue.
