END THE FLOCK CONTRACT IN BERKELEY

The Issue

The City of Berkeley will soon vote on whether to continue their contract with Flock Inc., a company that uses AI-powered cameras to surveil community members. Flock has been caught illegally sharing its data with  ICE and out-of-state cops hunting people suspected of getting abortions. With the Trump administration putting Berkeley on a shortlist of 18 cities targeted for our sanctuary city status, if we want to protect our neighbors’ safety, Flock cannot be trusted with our community’s data.

The City is currently facing a $28 million  dollar deficit, yet money is being spent compromising the civil rights of all Berkeley citizens. We demand that the city redirect its funding priorities to align with the values of its residents by taking the following steps:

  1. Protect the right of all residents to privacy - do not gather data on individuals.
  2. Revoke the contract with Flock Safety and cease efforts to expand surveillance of the residents of Berkeley.
  3. Defend Berkeley’s sanctuary city law and our immigrant communities.
  4. Invest in community-based solutions to crime and crime prevention.
