The Issue

Millions of British families are trapped in a family justice system that is broken, adversarial, and fundamentally unfit for purpose. Instead of safeguarding children, the current system routinely subjects them to a devastating legal meat grinder, stripping families of their rights to family life under Article 8.

The Family Standards Act is a desperately needed regulatory framework designed to work alongside the Children Act 1989 and the Domestic Abuse Act 2021. It aims to stop the weaponization of the courts, end state-facilitated parental alienation, and put the focus back where it belongs: on the children.

The Crisis: A System Unfit for Purpose
Currently, parents without the resources to fund £300-per-hour legal battles face an opaque, unbalanced system. We are witnessing an epidemic of:

Adversarial Litigation over Child Welfare: Children are treated as commodities in a win-lose battle rather than beneficiaries of safeguarding.
Crushing Delays: An 80,000-case backlog leaves children in prolonged uncertainty, disrupting attachments and robbing them of irreplaceable family milestones.
Unaccountable Multi-Agency Failures: Institutional errors, biased two-tier policing, and flawed CAFCASS reports go unchecked, forcing innocent families to bear the emotional and financial burden of rectifying the state's mistakes.
State-Facilitated Alienation: Disproportionate interventions escalate disputes rather than resolve them, routinely resulting in unrighteous separation and bereavement.
The Solution: The Family Standards Act
To address these catastrophic systemic failures, this petition demands Parliament enact the following seven reforms:

Foundational Family Guidance: The mandatory inclusion of clear, faith-inclusive moral guidance in Post-Natal Bounty Packs. Acknowledging the King as Head of the Church of England, this includes Christian scripture (New Testament) alongside inclusive Islamic literature, encouraging foundational family milestones like Baptism to establish early community and spiritual safety nets.
Child-Centric Legal Aid: Provision of Legal Aid strictly for children as independent parties, ensuring Guardian oversight with parental contact from the First Hearing. This replaces the adversarial "parent vs. parent" model with a traffic-light stream-lined system, prioritizing early mediation, "Parenting Together" programs, and non-litigious solutions.
Evidence-Based CAFCASS Reform: Overhauling Section 7 reporting to mandate full-spectrum, evidence-based assessments. Reports must integrate comprehensive medical records for all parties to ensure transparency and prevent misrepresentation.
A Statutory Duty of Correction: Agencies and courts must be held legally accountable for acting on incomplete or misleading information. Families must never bear the burden of fixing institutional incompetence.
Proportionate Policing: A comprehensive review of police involvement in family matters to ensure interventions are strictly proportionate, non-discriminatory, and fully compliant with Article 8. Police actions must de-escalate, not criminalize, family distress.
Independent Oversight of Separations: Mandatory independent review for cases involving prolonged or unjustified separation—particularly when children are placed in foster care due to administrative failings rather than substantiated safeguarding concerns.
National Review of Systemic Delays: An urgent inquiry into the cumulative impact of family and criminal court backlogs, addressing the permanent psychological damage inflicted on children left in limbo.
A Personal Case Study of Systemic Failure
The devastating reality of these failures is not abstract. It happens to ordinary parents every day:

"I am a father of two young daughters with whom I shared a profound bond from birth. Despite having no criminal record, I was detained for ten months. The alleged basis? Sending a text message containing a publicly available BBC article about an elephant reunited with its parent.

I faced no charges, yet my children were torn from me. Subsequent CAFCASS reports contained glaring inaccuracies and omissions that entirely misrepresented my character. Decisions were made without full evidence, without proportionality, and without any accountability. My story reflects a wider, devastating pattern of arbitrary policy and multi-agency failure that results in senseless parental alienation and long-term harm to children."
Call to Action
The UK has a proud tradition of justice, but systemic errors in our family courts are persisting for generations. Diminishing parental responsibility through procedural failure rather than evidence is an outright violation of human rights. It acts as a societal cancer, leaving our most vulnerable under-21s paying the ultimate price.

Both Parents Matter.

We call upon Parliament and the Ministry of Justice to urgently implement the Family Standards Act. We must stop the revolving door of trauma, ensure families are treated with dignity, and finally establish a justice system that protects—rather than plunders—our children's futures.

Sign the petition. Protect our children. Demand accountability.
