In reverence of India's diverse cultural and religious traditions, this petition seeks to enforce and uphold the laws against beef export and the slaughter of cows and buffaloes. Cows are sacred in the Hindu religion, representing life and the sustenance of life, and their slaughter deeply distresses adherents of this faith, which constitutes nearly 80% of India's population (Census of India, 2011). Yet despite these ethical concerns and existing legal measures, an estimated 1.3 million tonnes of buffalo meat were exported from India in the 2018-19 fiscal year (APEDA, 2018-19). The beef industry's encroachment on religious rights and contributing to the pain of sentient creatures is no longer up for debate – it is a fact. The time to safeguard India's cultural heritage, protect animal welfare, and uphold the rule of law is now.
