BBS November Board Meeting - The fire is burning

Hi everyone,
I am writing to share an exciting and critical update on our campaign to modernize California’s pre-licensed MFT pathway (B&P Code § 4980.43). Thanks to the growing momentum of our community, our voices are officially reaching the regulatory table.
Here is what has been accomplished so far:
Surpassing Milestones: Our grassroots community has grown past 100 signatures, proving that pre-licensed practitioners, students, and allies are ready for structural change.
Official Board Record: I recently heard back from the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), and they have formally requested to include our Policy Brief in the public materials for the upcoming November Board meeting. This means our data on uncompensated administrative labor, the 40–50% attrition rate, and the caregiver penalty is now directly part of the official regulatory record.
Institutional & Legislative Outreach: We are actively engaging academic leadership and legislative offices to demand a formal occupational analysis through the Office of Professional Examination Services (OPES)—the necessary legal trigger for statutory reform.
What’s Next:
As we head toward the November BBS meeting were this will be an "agenda item" and prepare for the 2027–2028 legislative session, your ongoing support, shares, and advocacy remain vital. We are pushing not just for conversation, but for structural fixes: paid practicums, fair compensation splits for AMFTs, and a sustainable timeline to licensure.
November BBS meeting - formally request that the matter be added to a future "discussion agenda".
Thank you for standing up for a fair, equitable future for our profession. I encourage you to join and let your voice and personal story be heard.
