The Issue

A new scientific review confirms what animal advocates have been saying for decades: life in captivity is no life at all for whales and dolphins. These intelligent, social marine mammals suffer physically and psychologically when kept in concrete tanks. SeaWorld San Antonio is still forcing them to live in small, barren enclosures that cannot meet their most basic needs.

In the wild, whales and dolphins travel vast distances, dive deep, hunt, play, and choose their companions. At SeaWorld San Antonio, they swim in circles, perform for food, and are separated or confined in artificial groupings. The stress, boredom, and lack of stimulation take a serious toll. Many exhibit signs of psychological distress, including repetitive behaviors and self-harm.

Even though SeaWorld ended its orca breeding program, it continues to breed dolphins and other whales at this park. That means more generations of animals born into confinement, destined to live in tanks instead of the ocean.

It’s time for SeaWorld San Antonio to make real change.

We are calling on SeaWorld to immediately stop all breeding of dolphins and whales at its San Antonio park and begin the process of relocating its remaining animals to seaside sanctuaries. These sanctuaries can provide a more natural, enriching environment, with ocean currents, deeper water, and greater freedom—while still offering human care when needed.

The science is clear. The suffering is real. These animals deserve better.

Add your name to demand that SeaWorld San Antonio retire its dolphins and whales to seaside sanctuaries where they can finally live with dignity.
