Seeing horses forced to pull tourist carriages through busy streets is just animal torture.

The physical trauma they suffer is obvious and heartbreaking. Pulling heavy loads on hard cobblestones causes severe joint damage, chronic lameness, and painful hoof injuries. You can literally see them shifting their weight just to protect a hurting leg. On top of that, they breathe in toxic exhaust all day while standing in the intense heat.

But the saddest part is the absolute lack of love and care. These are gentle, living creatures, yet they are treated like disposable machines. They are worked to the point of exhaustion without ever experiencing the affection, proper rest, or genuine compassion they deserve. They are just used for profit until they break.

If the Mayor of Rome, or any city authority, is going to allow these businesses to operate, there must be serious and strictly enforced requirements. Any business profiting from animals must be forced to comply with rules that completely prevent their exploitation and abuse. Right now, it is clear those protections do not exist or are being ignored.

This exploitation needs to stop everywhere. We have plenty of modern ways to get around, so there is simply no excuse to keep this industry alive.
