End the Captivity of Orcas Now

End the Captivity of Orcas Now
The Issue
I am writing this petition deeply saddened and distressed. As someone who shares a profound connection with Orcas, it breaks my heart to see these magnificent creatures living in circumstances far from their natural habitat. The captivity of Orcas is not merely an inconvenient housing situation for these animals – it leads to serious psychological distress and heightened aggression towards humans. Experts have confirmed that Orcas held in captivity display signs of extreme stress, depression, and increased aggression (WDC, 2018).
Unlike their counterparts in the wild that swim up to 100 miles a day, captive Orcas are confined to small pools. This confinement is not only physical but also psychological. Orcas are highly social animals, and in the wild, they live in close-knit family groups. Forced separation from their families and their natural environment leads to abnormal behaviors, poor health, and often, shortened life spans (NOAA, 2020).
The evidence is clear and undeniable: Captivity kills. Not only does it ravage their physical health, but it tears at their psychological wellbeing, leading these gentle giants to become increasingly aggressive towards humans. While these animals are undeniably captivating, it is ethically and morally unjustifiable to continue to exploit them for entertainment.
On behalf of the loving, sentient beings that Orcas are, this petition implores the relevant authorities and the public to act now. Together, we can put an end to Orca whale captivity. Let's work towards creating safer, more humane environments for these magnificent creatures, and uphold our responsibility to protect and preserve all life on earth.
Please, sign this petition, and join the movement to free Orcas from captivity today!
