As a dedicated caretaker of two adopted birds, Ziggy and Kiwi, I have personally witnessed the distressing reality faced by many exotic pets. These innocent creatures are often bred in inhumane conditions for profit, then sold to owners who may not fully understand their complex needs.

There is an alarming number of birds and parrots currently waiting for adoption or living in substandard conditions. This is a direct result of breeders profiting from these voiceless animals and the unrestricted sale of exotic pets on social media platforms and websites.

According to the Avian Welfare Coalition, millions of birds are bred each year for sale (source: Avian Welfare Coalition). Many end up abandoned or surrendered due to their long lifespans and intensive care requirements. This cycle must be stopped.

We propose "Ziggy & Kiwi’s Law" - legislation that would prohibit the breeding and online selling of all exotic pets, especially birds. By doing so we can ensure that these animals are not exploited for profit but instead given a chance at a life they deserve.
