End the ADHD/Autism Medication Shortage

The Issue

Two Years of Increased Prescription Shortages!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

The first shortage of immediate-release formulations of amphetamine mixed salts (Adderall, Adderall IR) was reported by the FDA in October 2022. Now, the list includes Focalin, Ritalin, and Vyvanse, among others.  (source:  Medscape, Mar 12, 2024)

My adult son, who is in transition between high school and college, is diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. His prescription medication provides him the ability to remain calm, focused, and productive in an Autism transition program. He struggles weekly to fill portions of his monthly prescription. Not only is he not able to remain calm, focused, and productive, but gives too much time and energy into finding medication rather than focusing on the program he needs to transition.

The ongoing shortage of ADHD/Autism medications has left countless individuals like my son without the essential treatments they need for their daily functioning. According to a report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), over 6 million children in the U.S. have been diagnosed with ADHD alone (source: AAP). This shortage disrupts lives and hampers progress for those who rely on these medications.

We urge pharmaceutical companies and regulatory bodies to address this critical issue immediately by increasing production capacities and ensuring consistent supply chains for these vital medications.
