The Issue

On October 22nd, 2025, Tallahassee City Commissioners voted 3-2 to keep the 287(g) agreement, permitting state and local law enforcement to enforce immigration law and operate as I.C.E agents. This agreement gives our local officers the power to arrest, transport, and detain people who they have “reason to believe” may be in violation of the law. This wording makes it easy for officers to racially profile people in our community. With immigrants already under attack, the 287g agreement only opens paths to further violence and oppression within our city.

Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance (TIRA) continues to fight against this agreement. We fought to get the 287g agreement on the agenda and urged commissioners to rescind the agreement. Last year, they chose to keep it. We are hoping for a new outcome this time. Help us show the commissioners that this agreement is dangerous and must be overturned in order to keep the people of our community safe.

TIRA’s mission is to inform the public about I.C.E. safety, spread awareness to immigrants about their rights, and fight for justice and change within local laws.

By signing this petition, you reject the 287(g) agreement, and support TIRA’s cause in overturning the agreement altogether.
