End Taxi Monopoly at Aberdeen International Airport

End Taxi Monopoly at Aberdeen International Airport

The Issue

Not enough cars, no competition allowed

It often takes longer to wait in the taxi queue than it takes to fly to Aberdeen.  Hundreds of people standing in the cold because there is no alternative and because the airport protects a single taxi operator (currently Aberdeen Airport Taxis).

  • Scrap the pickup and drop off fees - this is extortion.
  • Open access to all taxi firms for airport pick up rank - a single company cannot provide enough cars and drivers to meet demand peaks.
  • Stop preventing other taxi firms from collecting outside the airport - this is anti-competitive

As a local who has travelled extensively both domestically and internationally, I am saddened every time I return to Aberdeen to see how arriving passengers are treated.
