The Issue

Since LGBTQ+ marriage is under the chopping block from the religious radicals again, we need to pull together to end the marriages between man and woman. If one goes, the other should follow suit. This is a personal call to action driven by the inequities present in the current socio-political climate, where the sanctity of marriage is continuously challenged and redefined.

In recent years, we've witnessed an alarming surge in attempts to undermine the rights of LGBTQ+ couples by questioning the very validity of their unions. This is a stark reminder that any threat to the freedom of marriage for one group is a threat to all. If the marriage of same-sex couples can be so easily targeted, so too can the marriage of opposite-sex couples. This reflects an inherent imbalance and threatens the principle of equal protection under the law, a cornerstone of the rights the constitution promises to every citizen of this nation.

It’s vital to acknowledge that every type of marriage carries its sanctity, irrespective of gender. Hence, while policies attempt to destabilize one kind of union, it is paramount to stand for a uniform approach—either all marriages are protected, or none can be.

Consider the statistics: In the U.S., over 50% of heterosexual marriages end in divorce, casting doubt on the unchallenged sanctity often ascribed to man-woman unions. Yet, amidst these statistics, LGBTQ+ couples remain unjustly scrutinized, despite demonstrating unwavering commitment and resolve within their marriages. Equal marital recognition for all not only aligns with democratic principles but also fosters a community of inclusivity and understanding.

We urge policymakers and society at large to hold steadfast to fair rights, ensuring marriage equality remains a shared principle for everyone. Ending preferential treatment of opposite-sex marriages reaffirms a stance towards fairness and justice for all couples. Sign this petition to bring awareness to marriage equality and fight for an inclusive future for all individuals, regardless of whom they choose to love and marry.
