End statelessness now

End statelessness now
The Issue
Today 10 million people around the world are denied a nationality in any country. They are told they don’t belong anywhere.
As a result, they are often forced to live in the shadows of society: unable to go to school, see a doctor, get a job, open a bank account, get a driver’s license or even get married. Many pass on the curse of statelessness to their children, which in turn can make them more vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.
You can help us end this injustice. Some of the main causes of statelessness include discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, race, religion, gender or disability. Another major cause is failure to make sure that everyone gets a nationality when countries, such as the USSR, break up and form new countries. Gaps in nationality laws also mean that many people are simply born stateless, inheriting their status from their parents. In fact one child is born stateless every 10 minutes.
In most cases, stateless people could be given a nationality through minor changes in existing laws. Help us make this a reality by joining the Campaign to End Statelessness.
Together, we can make it possible for 10 million people around the world to say #IBelong.
