End Sanctuary State Status in New York

The Issue

As a lifelong resident in New York, having lived and worked in three of five boroughs, I've seen firsthand how our resources are being stretched thin. Our beloved boroughs - Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Staten Island - are shouldering the financial burden of providing for illegal immigrants. We're not just talking about housing; we're also funding their food, clothing, medical care and education. This isn't just about money though; it's about safety too. We've witnessed an alarming increase in violent crimes linked to gangs that are indirectly supported by our tax dollars.  The cost is trickling to Long Island as Illegal Migrants aided by other illegal communities already here are taking away from our children’s needs as well as the needs of our veterans, seniors and poor.  Nassau University Medical Center is collapsing from unpaid bills of illegals along with mismanagement.  Just because Nassau and Suffolk refused to take in the illegals does not mean we are not included in the “sanctuary status”.

New York is home to over 4 million immigrants who contribute significantly to the economy and cultural diversity (source: American Immigration Council). However, it's crucial that immigration is carried out legally and responsibly so as not to strain public resources or compromise public safety.

We need policies that prioritize the needs of New Yorkers first. It's time for us to reconsider our status as a Sanctuary State which shields illegal immigrants from certain federal immigration laws (source: Center for Immigration Studies). By doing this we can ensure that our resources go towards supporting legal residents who contribute positively towards society.

We ALL, whether we are first generation or fifth generation have migrated here legally.  We have heard our grandparents and parents struggles and the pride they felt to come here, without a handout and make it.

New Yorkers including legal immigrants deserve to be heard.  Our once beautiful city needs to go back to being the jewel it once was, before the rest of the state looks like the mess it is now.

We urge lawmakers in Albany to put an end to Sanctuary State status in New York State. Let's prioritize the welfare and safety of all legal residents living here today! Sign this petition if you agree!
