The Issue

On March 28, 2025, my son became a victim of senseless road rage on the streets of Albuquerque, and his life was tragically cut short. The pain and loss my family endures every day is indescribable, and no one else should have to experience such heartache. This personal loss has ignited a call for action to address and put an end to the escalating road rage incidents in our city.
Road rage is becoming an alarming problem across New Mexico, especially in Albuquerque.

Traffic violations issued for aggressive/careless driving or speeding: 0.8 per 100,000 people

Fatal accidents involving aggressive or careless driving: 7.23 per 100,000 people

Accounted for 38.1% of all fatal crashes in the state in 2023

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that aggressive driving and road rage were factors in 66 percent of traffic fatalities nationwide. In our state, road rage incidents have increased significantly over the past year. These numbers are not just statistics; they represent real people whose lives have been adversely affected.

To combat this crisis, it's essential to implement more stringent laws and foster greater community awareness. I propose increasing penalties for aggressive driving behavior and implementing driver-awareness programs specifically focusing on road rage prevention.

Moreover, it's crucial for local law enforcement to have the necessary resources and training to handle road rage incidents and investigations effectively. By enhancing police training, visibility and patrol in areas known for aggressive driving, we can deter potential offenders and make our roads safer for everyone.

This may not bring my son back, but together, we can prevent future tragedies and make Albuquerque's streets safer for all residents. Please join me in calling upon our local government and community leaders to take immediate and effective action against road rage.

Sign this petition to honor those we've lost and protect the lives of others on the roads we all share.

Rest in Peace Enrique Rafael Duverger
