The Issue

The issue of litter in our streets is not only a personal concern, but a public disservice that mars the beauty of our community and degrades our environment. As someone who feels deeply distressed by the sight of our disgracefully littered streets, I am compelled to take action, not just for myself, but also for the sake of the future generations who will inherit the community we leave behind.

Each year, countless tons of litter end up in oceans, rivers, and in our environments, contributing to the death of wildlife and the degradation of natural landscapes. Littering affects us all: it deteriorates the quality of life in our neighborhoods, decreases property values, and could contribute to community health concerns. According to a 2009 Keep America Beautiful study, litter clean-up costs the U.S. almost $11.5 billion each year, a hefty price that could be channeled to more beneficial initiatives were littering not a prevalent issue.

We are calling for stricter laws and enforcement against littering, better trash management systems, and a concerted public education campaign about the harm caused by littering. Acknowledge the power of your individual action by signing this petition and take a stand against littering. Reclaim the cleanliness and dignity of our streets. We owe it to ourselves and to the future generations. Your signature can make a real difference. Please sign the petition and urge others to do the same.
