End PTA partnership with Mc Donald's

The Issue

I am a mother of 4 and am actively involved in their school and our community. My daughter received an invitation for a PTA sponsored event, included was a gift certificate for a Mc Donald’s Mc Wrap. Upon reading the certificate, I came to learn that our State PTA surprisingly has a partnership with Mc Donald’s. With the current obesity epidemic we are seeing in children, I am asking the California State PTA to end its partnership with Mc Donald’s.

I work very closely with students of all ages and have seen firsthand how bad food choices can affect their health. This PTA partnership with McDonald’s is sending the wrong message about healthy eating to our families. It saddens me to see the children in our community be target-marketed to by McDonald’s and an organization meant to improve the well-being of our children and youth. The health and lives of our children mean too much to me, something has to change.

The California State PTA can end their partnership with Mc Donald’s and explore opportunities with other companies. In doing so, they would be upholding their mission to improve the well-being of our children. They would be sending the message that our children's health is of the utmost importance and a topic that needs our attention. In turn, our students may make one less trip through the drive through, awareness will be raised, and our obesity rates will decline.

If the PTA does not end their partnership with Mc Donald’s it may open the doors to partnerships with other fast food chains. Gift certificates will continue to be sent home and advertised as “healthy”. Our children will begin to think that fast food options are healthy options. Our obesity rates will continue to climb, affecting the lives of our children in more ways than imaginable.  Help take action, take a step in the right direction for the future of our children. Please sign this petition to end the partnership between the California PTA and Mc Donald’s indefinitely.

Emails directly to the California State PTA will also be very effective: membership@capta.org
