As the mother of a young son with multiple severe food allergies, I am shaken by the death of 3-year-old Elijah Silvera at his NYC pre-school after ingesting food which he was allergic to. While I do not presume to know all the facts of the case, current reports indicate that he was NOT administered potentially life-saving epinephrine - the low-to-no-side effect drug used to stop the symptoms of deadly anaphylaxis - while at the school. I can only wonder how different the outcome would have been had little Elijah been administered epinephrine by trained school staff in a timely manner.

Please join me in signing this petition, directed to the attention of NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, requesting that he and the City Council put in place legislation requiring that ALL NYC schools, including day care facilities and preschools, keep injectable epinephrine on site, and that relevant staff be trained (and authorized) to give this drug should a child in their care present with signs of anaphylaxis.

Let's please put an end to potentially preventable food allergy deaths.
