End Pet Theft/Larceny in TN - Create, Strengthen laws to Protect pets and Prevent crime

The Issue

#EndPetTheftTN

((Update 3/27/23: It's going to be an uphill climb to get TN lawmakers and law enforcement to acknowledge that Pet Theft is a Real Issue, but We Can't Falter. If we don't advocate for our pets lives then no one will.. No correspondence from any of the officials I contacted including Jon Lundberg. I encourage All to continue to contact your local community and government leaders about the growing Pet Thefts.

My 2023 resolution is to petition for Stronger, Efficient laws against Pet Theft/Larceny in Tennessee.

Pet Theft and Pet Trafficking is a contributing factor of overpopulation of shelter animals along with irresponsible ownership, puppy mills and strays. These reported "Lost" pets often results to higher Euthanasia of unclaimed animals, Stolen pets bred and sold to pet trafficking, fighting rings and other abusive situations, but in the end there will always be countless devastated families who are left with only broken hearts and no answers.

125 days now that my own dog Kira was Stolen from only one street from my home in Franklin, TN. Although our pets Are considered our Property, there is very little to no support from Law to reclaim animal property in my own very frustrating experience.

Pictured below are just a fraction of hundreds of Pet Theft victims in TN.

(My "Kira" American Bulldog, HEARTWORM POSITIVE ripped from her only family Franklin, TN 11/23/22)

(Pitbull pup "Chloe" Bellevue, TN home invaded and Stolen 3/14/23)

(Spaniel "Teddy" Columbia, TN home invaded and Stolen. His packmate traumatized and fearful to go outside since the incident 3/12/23)

("BellaLaFlare" and companion French Bulldogs Stolen at gunpoint in Memphis, TN 3/22/23)

THIS MUST CHANGE.

Not only will this help to curb the ever growing animal related crime patterns in TN, economically it will benefit county shelters, rescues that are always stretched thin to provide support for animals in need and lessen the always hard decision to euthanize animals solely to make room for More animals.

It's unacceptable that Tennessee self proclaims to be a "Pet Friendly" state when our pets are so easily preyed upon and fall victim to Pet Theft, Abuse and Neglect.

What do we need in a Pet Theft Bill?

1. Additional, Harsher punishment for individuals commiting Pet Theft

2. Increased Initiative for law enforcement to assist animal control and pet owners in reported Pet Theft cases

Let's Help make TN Safer for our pets and our community. #EndPetTheftTN #KiraComeHome
