End Orca Captivity at SeaWorld – It’s Time for Change!
The Issue
Orcas Deserve Freedom, Not Tanks
For decades, SeaWorld has profited from the captivity of orcas, forcing them into cramped, artificial tanks far smaller than their natural ocean habitats. These highly intelligent and social animals suffer from physical and psychological distress in confinement. It’s time for SeaWorld to do the right thing and release its orcas to coastal sanctuaries.
🚨 The Truth About SeaWorld’s Orcas
🐋 Collapsed dorsal fins – a sign of stress, seen in nearly all captive male orcas, but rare in the wild.
💔 Shortened lifespans – wild orcas can live up to 80-90 years, while most captive ones die before reaching 30.
🔊 Extreme stress & aggression – unnatural social groupings lead to fights, injuries, and even deaths.
🔒 Nowhere to escape – in the wild, orcas swim up to 100 miles a day, but in captivity, they circle tiny tanks endlessly.
📢 What We’re Demanding
✔️ End the captive orca breeding program permanently.
✔️ Retire all remaining orcas to marine sanctuaries where they can live in larger, natural environments.
✔️ Stop live animal performances and shift to conservation-based programs.
✔️ Commit to never acquiring or breeding orcas again.
🔎 Why This Matters
Public awareness has grown. After the release of Blackfish, SeaWorld’s reputation suffered, and attendance dropped. Major companies cut ties with SeaWorld due to ethical concerns. The world is watching—SeaWorld must evolve or be remembered for cruelty.
