The Labor Government has recently reimplemented the worst of John Howard's refugee policies - the 'Pacific Solution'. This means the reopening of detention centres on Nauru and Manus Island.

Under the new plan to give 'no advantage' to refugees people who arrive by boat seeking asylum could be locked up in these offshore detention centres for five years or more. There are no time limits on detention.

Please sign the petition and demand the government:
• Reject offshore processing on Nauru, Manus Island or Malaysia
• Commit to processing asylum applicants onshore and resettling refugees in Australia
• Substantially increase Australia's resettlement quota for UNHCR recognised refugees in Indonesia and Malaysia, in addition to processing the asylum claims of people who arrive by boat
• Take measures to ensure that asylum boat journeys are safe, such as ceasing the practice of destroying and intercepting boats and escorting boats to the Australian mainland for processing
