End Nonconsensual Private Vehicle Booting in Georgia
The Issue
A parking dispute should never become a threat to someone’s safety.
In Georgia, private vehicle booting companies can immobilize cars without the driver’s consent when certain parking rules are violated. A booted vehicle can leave someone unable to get to work, pick up children, attend medical appointments, or respond to an emergency.
When disputes arise over whether a vehicle was properly booted or how much someone must pay, an ordinary parking disagreement can turn into a dangerous confrontation.
We are asking the Georgia General Assembly to end nonconsensual private vehicle booting statewide and replace it with safer, more accountable parking-enforcement alternatives.
Why this matters
In November 2018, WSB-TV reported that a private booting company employee shot and injured a motorist during a confrontation involving a booted vehicle in Atlanta. The incident demonstrated how serious these disputes can become.
Georgia adopted additional regulations in 2025, with new requirements taking effect in 2026. But regulating booting is not the same as eliminating the risks associated with immobilizing a person’s vehicle.
Property owners deserve reasonable ways to address unauthorized parking. Motorists, employees, and the public also deserve safety, transparency, and fair treatment.
If lawmakers do not prohibit private booting entirely, we ask them to strengthen oversight, consumer protections, de-escalation standards, penalties for proven violations, and procedures for challenging wrongful booting.
This petition is about public safety and legislative reform, not determining responsibility in any individual criminal case.
Please add your signature to call for meaningful action on private vehicle booting in Georgia.

Together, we can call for safer parking enforcement throughout Georgia.
