I am deeply disgusted by the extent to which Nintendo is stifling innovation in the video game world. Once a leader in creativity, Nintendo now seems more concerned with excessively patenting, creating insurmountable barriers for other developers who want to innovate.

Nintendo has been a pillar of gaming with its iconic consoles like the Wii, Nintendo DS, and the early Switch. That sense of creative freedom seems to have disappeared, replaced by a more restrictive and conservative business approach. Nintendo needs to return to its roots and encourage collaboration and innovation rather than locking every idea behind useless patents.

Patents are designed to protect inventions, not stifle innovation. Every time Nintendo files a patent for a new idea, it not only blocks other developers from building on and improving those concepts, but also limits the diversity of options for gamers like me, who are looking for new, captivating and immersive experiences.

I call on Nintendo to reconsider its approach and allow greater freedom for video game creators to revitalize the gaming industry. Let's end this era of control and revive the spirit of innovation that made Nintendo a legend.
