These laws contradict the very essence of food sovereignty, freedom from hunger, and local subsistence farming, which are vital aspects of sustainable living in Maine. Without the ability to raise their own food source, many residents are robbed of their independence and autonomy. We, the residents of Maine, believe that these restrictions serve no public interest, and instead put unnecessary constraints in the way of our right to raise chickens and produce our own food. We urge municipalities throughout Maine to reconsider and repeal these restrictions.
