End modern slavery and arbitrary detention in Libya

The Issue

It breaks my heart to witness in 2026 the persistence of slavery, with nearly 900,000 people from various countries and Libya trapped in modern slavery. Innocent children, women, and men — no one is spared from this atrocity. Libya, unlike many other regions, is not receiving the attention it urgently needs. We must become the voice of the oppressed in Libya, who have been mercilessly silenced for over a decade.

In Libya, countless individuals are subjected to appalling conditions akin to modern-day slavery, where they face exploitation, abuse, and the denial of basic human rights. This tragic situation is compounded by arbitrary detention practices, where people, including migrants and refugees, are unlawfully held without charge or trial, exacerbating the cycle of suffering and oppression.

Libya's instability and ongoing conflict have allowed this grave human rights crisis to flourish unchecked. The international community's response has been woefully inadequate, leaving many to suffer in silence. The lack of accountability and oversight has created a haven for human traffickers and perpetrators of violence, further exacerbating the crisis.

Concrete and immediate actions are necessary to address this dire situation. We call upon global leaders, human rights organizations, and governments to:

1. Pressure Libyan authorities to implement rigorous anti-human trafficking measures and end arbitrary detention practices.
2. Provide adequate resources and support for international humanitarian organizations working on the ground to protect and assist victims.
3. Launch and support international investigations into human rights abuses in Libya to ensure accountability and justice for the victims.

By raising our voices and spreading awareness, we can contribute to dismantling modern slavery and securing justice and freedom for thousands in Libya. Let us stand in solidarity with the oppressed and demand significant change. Please sign this petition to urge immediate international action to end modern slavery and arbitrary detention in Libya.
