The Issue

Across Colorado and beyond, our communities are witnessing a disturbing rise in masked law enforcement actions, unchecked ICE raids, and the targeting of immigrants, students, and political dissenters—including lawful U.S. residents. These actions are being carried out with secrecy and force, silencing voices and spreading fear.

🔍 What’s Happening

  • On February 5, ICE agents stormed four apartment buildings in Denver and Aurora—tearing through doors, entering homes without warrants, and firing rubber bullets at innocent tenants.
  • On March 17, immigrant rights activist Jeanette Vizguerra, honored by Time Magazine as one of the world's most influential people, was detained during her shift at a Denver Target despite having no criminal record.
  • On June 27, Andrea Velez, a 32-year-old U.S. citizen, was forcibly taken by masked agents in Los Angeles. Her family feared she had been kidnapped, only to discover the perpetrators were federal immigration officials.

These alarming events exemplify a growing pattern: secretive, militarized operations carried out by unmarked federal agents who operate under the veil of anonymity. This is not just a federal concern—it’s a Colorado crisis.

💡 What We’re Demanding
We call on Colorado lawmakers to introduce legislation that ensures:

  • 🚫 No masks or facial coverings during ICE detentions or arrests.
  • 🛡️ Clear identification of the DHS agency involved (ICE, CBP, etc.).
  • 👮‍♂️ Display of visible insignia or uniforms, making agents unmistakably identifiable to the public.

Public safety depends on trust and transparency, not fear. Communities must never be left wondering who is detaining their neighbors—or why.

⚖️ Why It Matters
These masked operations mimic tactics used by secret police in authoritarian regimes and contradict the practices of local law enforcement. We believe those who enforce the law should do so visibly, with accountability. Colorado must not become a place where people fear being disappeared in broad daylight.

This is a call to action. Not just for immigrants—but for all Coloradans who believe in justice, civil liberties, and democratic values. We demand an end to anonymous law enforcement and a return to transparency.

✍️ Sign this petition to protect our communities and affirm that ICE anonymity has no place in a democracy.
