Petition updateHelp End Lunch Shaming in Texas Schools. Feed the kids, Bill the parents. #ShameFreeTXI took a severe blow yesterday, but this is far from over!

Well supporters, a key Texas legislator that I had been counting on for support has essentially wished me well but otherwise withdrawn her legislative support, she cited her need to focus on the issues raised by her own constituents. I see this school meal issue as a Texas issue meaning that any support offered would also serve her constituents, she saw things differently however and I must respect her decision. Her withdrawal was a blow but rest assured, I’m still on my feet and this fight is not over. In response to the withdrawal of support I drafted and sent emails to the 11 members of the Texas Senate Education Committee and the 11 members of the Texas House Committee on Public Education. Although the Texas legislature is not in session the Senators and Representatives will still receive their emails, the big question is what kind of response the emails will receive, if any. Each of the 22 recipients received – 1) a copy of the proposed amendment, 2) a sampling of the school district Charge Policies in our capital city of Austin and the four school districts immediately surrounding Austin, 3) and an Excel spreadsheet containing the comments of more than 11,000 petition supporters who listed Texas addresses. I also tracked down the Twitter names for each committee member and will begin sending them custom Tweets asking for their support. With less than six months remaining we must gain enough momentum to carry this petition across the finish line, I still need your help. Please continue sharing this petition and if you use Facebook or Twitter please use the hashtag #NoSchoolMealsDenied, I try to remember to add it to each of my post as well. Thank you so much for your continued support, Kelvin #BruisedButNotOut
