End Livingston County Sheriff’s Office’s 287(g) Agreement with ICE
The Issue
End Livingston County Sheriff’s Office’s 287(g) Agreement with ICE
To Livingston County Sheriff Michael J. Murphy:
Everyone in Livingston County deserves to feel safe seeking help, reporting a crime, and participating in their community without fear that contact with local law enforcement could lead to immigration consequences.
We call on Sheriff Michael J. Murphy to end the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office’s voluntary 287(g) Warrant Service Officer agreement with ICE.
In July 2026, the Sheriff’s Office entered into this agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It allows designated, ICE-trained local officers to serve and execute administrative immigration warrants on people already in county custody, creating a formal connection between the county’s local custody system and federal immigration enforcement.
We are concerned that this partnership can deepen fear among immigrant families and weaken the community trust that public safety depends on. Immigrants already face barriers involving discrimination, economic instability, access to healthcare, and fear of deportation or separation from family. Local participation in immigration enforcement can compound these vulnerabilities and discourage people from seeking help or reporting crimes.
Protecting the dignity, rights, and well-being of community members should guide local policies. When people are afraid to contact local law enforcement, the safety of the whole community can be affected.
Ending this voluntary agreement is a concrete, actionable step toward protecting immigrant rights and strengthening community trust.
Sign this petition to urge Sheriff Murphy to end the agreement and support the dignity, safety, and well-being of everyone in Livingston County.
