Dear Supporters,

It is time to mobilize here in Maryland for our first demand for change—one that we believe must also echo across our nation.

Murder should never be granted leniency under the guise of age.
Yet under the Second Look Act, individuals between the ages of 18–25—labeled “juveniles” under this framework—are given multiple opportunities to seek sentence reconsideration, not once, but up to three additional times solely because of their age. This is in addition to relief available to all offenders.

Let me be clear: this is our first push, but it will not be our last.

Before we could even step fully into this fight, my daughters and I had to take a moment of silence—to survive. This past holiday season was our first without Vincent, and it was one of the hardest things we have ever endured. As we grieve, the anniversary of his murder—February 16—is quickly approaching, reopening wounds that never truly close.

To those of you who reached out, who spoke Vincent’s name during our silence—thank you. That meant more to us than words can express.

Today, I am humbled to share that The JUST WHY Movement has surpassed 700 signatures.
What began with just myself and Vincent’s sister asking one question—#JustWhy—has now grown 700 voices strong. This matters more than you know.

Vincent’s murder left us with no answers, no remorse, and no true accountability.

Some say, “But he pled guilty to first-degree murder—what more could there be?”
Let me explain why that question matters.

The person who murdered my son was originally facing 10 criminal charges. Through a plea deal, he pled guilty to only two. Each of those original charges carried time—separate accountability for separate acts. Instead, a deal was made, and in today’s justice system, that was considered “acceptable.”

Now, because of newly passed legislation, he may seek reconsideration of his 50-year sentence up to four times:

Once under provisions available to all offenders
Three additional times because he was classified as a “juvenile” (ages 18–25) when he murdered my son
This is why The JUST WHY Movement has proposed an amendment to the Second Look Act to exclude first-degree murder.

The Act already excludes:

Life Without Parole (LWOP)
Sex offenses
Cases involving the murder of a first responder
Which led me to ask a delegate a question I will continue to ask until it is answered:

Who—and at what point—did the Maryland General Assembly decide that one HUMAN life is more valuable than another?

Our communities deserve a justice system that centers victims and survivors, weighs the severity of the crime, and demands full accountability—not repeated opportunities for those who took a life to ask for mercy they never gave.

Please continue to share this petition, speak Vincent’s name, and stand with us as we demand change.

Lives over loopholes.
No loved one left behind.
