Dear Supporters, This morning, at 9:30 a.m. in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, sentencing was held for the man who took the life of my son, Vincent Anthony Fisher III. Ten powerful oral victim impact statements and ten written statements were presented to the court — from family, friends, and community members whose lives were forever changed by Vincent’s murder. In lieu of autopsy reports or body cam footage, the court was shown live footage of Vincent rollerblading and mentoring youth, allowing the judge to truly see who Vincent was — his joy, his light, and his impact on others. The judge was visibly moved by the evidence, the testimony, and by the complete lack of remorse from the defendant. There was no apology, no explanation, no “why.” Because of this, and the overwhelming truth of what was presented, she went above the non binding plea agreement and sentenced Raymond Terry III to life in prison, all but 50 years suspended, with eligibility for parole. During my impact statement, I reminded him — as Vincent’s mother — that he will forever be known as a murderer. His actions shattered four generations of our family who were present in that courtroom. This was no accident. He discharged the weapon multiple times, destroying not only Vincent’s life but also any hope of the brotherhood that once existed between them. Just as Cain killed Abel, he extinguished the one person who still saw light in him — the one who believed in his potential to rise above the darkness. We continue to advocate for amendments to House Bill 853 to ensure that violent offenders — especially those convicted of first- and second-degree murder — are not given leniency or second chances that victims never received.
