End Interview Ghosting and Protect Job Seekers in South Africa

The Issue

Too many South Africans attend interviews full of hope — only to be met with silence.

No feedback. No response. No closure. It’s called “ghosting”, and it’s time we end it.

As a country struggling with high unemployment, we cannot afford to ignore this issue any longer.

I am launching this petition to demand a new law that brings respect, humanity, fairness, and accountability to the hiring process in South Africa.

We are not just CVs or case numbers -We are human beings with dignity, dreams, and responsibilities.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Thousands of job seekers:

* Travel long distances with borrowed taxi fare

* Spend their last resources printing CVs and buying data

* Stay up all night preparing for interviews

...Only to never hear back. Ghosting job applicants after interviews isn’t just poor practice — it’s a silent form of institutional bullying. It chips away at people’s confidence, dignity, and mental health. Let’s call it what it is and stop normalizing this silence: It’s more than rude — it’s bullying, harmful and inhumane.

As a Recruitment Specialist for Youth Empowerment, I work with job seekers every day. I hear their frustration and pain. I see how this silent rejection damages confidence, mental health, and dignity.

It’s time for change!

We Propose a New Law That Will:

✅ Require companies to respond to every interviewed candidate within 30 days

✅ Offer specific feedback on where the candidate fell short.

✅ Ban fake or misleading job ads (“ghost postings”)

✅ Hold employers accountable for repeated interview ghosting

This law will:

* Ensure respect, fairness, and basic human decency for every job seeker.

* Promote transparency in hiring

* Protect job seekers from exploitation

* Improve morale and trust in the job market

🛑No one should be left in the dark after an interview.

🛑No one should feel invisible.

We believe in a job market that treats people with respect.

Let’s bring humanity back into hiring. Let’s end ghosting, together!
