My heart breaks every time I think about the animals in Pol County Animal Control. Every creature there deserves a life filled with love and care, but instead, they are met with painful euthanasia and inadequate conditions. I have personally witnessed the neglect and inaction that occurs within these walls, transforming a supposed haven into a place of despair.

Animal control facilities are intended to serve as transitional homes where animals can receive the care they need until they find their forever families. Unfortunately, at Pol County Animal Control, this mission is not being upheld. Animals suffer from lack of medical attention, inadequate shelter, and insufficient nutrition. The policies in place often result in unnecessary euthanasia, cutting short lives that could have been saved.

The statistics are grim: over 30% of animals at this facility are euthanized, many within days of arrival. Nationally, successful animal shelters can adopt out up to 90% of their intakes, reducing the need for euthanasia significantly. This demonstrates that with the right care and resources, outcomes can improve drastically.

We need to hold Pol County Animal Control accountable. We propose increased funding for proper medical care, better housing conditions, and staff training in compassionate animal care techniques. Additionally, implementing partnerships with local no-kill shelters and rescue organizations can help increase adoption rates and reduce overcrowding.

We can also look to successful models from other regions that have dramatically reduced euthanasia rates by enhancing their foster and volunteer programs. Pol County must adopt these strategies to transform its animal control into a model facility where animals are treated humanely.
