I am deeply concerned about the growing issue of homelessness in Wales. It's a crisis that could affect anyone, and indeed, it affects thousands of people every single day. The charities working tirelessly to support our communities are doing an incredible job, but they need more resources to keep up with this escalating problem.

The Housing Support Grant is a lifeline for many vulnerable individuals and families. However, its value has not kept pace with inflation over the years. This means that each year, it provides less real-world help to those who need it most.

In 2019-20 alone, there were an estimated 10,401 households threatened with homelessness in Wales (source: Welsh Government). This number is likely higher now due to economic pressures from the COVID-19 pandemic.

To protect those at risk of homelessness and support our community organisations effectively, we must ensure that the Housing Support Grant increases in line with inflation starting from 2024. By doing so, we can maintain its effectiveness and continue providing meaningful assistance to those who need it most.
