End Homeless Encampment in Tehama County

End Homeless Encampment in Tehama County
The Issue
To: City Council of Red Bluff, California, Tehama County Board of Supervisors, Chief of Police (Red Bluff Police Department), and Tehama County Sheriff
We, the concerned citizens of Red Bluff and Tehama County, demand that you take immediate action to enforce existing laws and ordinances related to homeless encampments on public properties.
Current Laws and Ordinances:
- Red Bluff Municipal Code prohibits camping, loitering, and public nuisance on city property.
- Tehama County Ordinances prohibit trespassing, camping, and public nuisance on county property.
- California State Laws prohibit encroachment on public property and provide for the removal of encampments.
Recent Developments:
- In June 2024, the US Supreme Court ruled in City of Grants Pass v. Johnson, affirming the authority of state and local governments to take action to address unsafe homeless encampments.
- Governor Newsom has expressed support for addressing homeless encampments, and his administration has taken steps to address this critical issue.
We urge you to:
1. Enforce existing laws and ordinances prohibiting homeless encampments on public properties.
2. Remove all homeless encampments from city and county property.
We demand that you take immediate action to address this critical issue and restore our community's safety, cleanliness, and quality of life.
Sincerely,
Tehama County Residents
