End High-Speed Police Chases of Non-Violent Suspects to Protect Innocent Lives

End High-Speed Police Chases of Non-Violent Suspects to Protect Innocent Lives
The Issue
I recall multiple stories about innocent bystanders being struck by cars in police chases. Many of the chases were not in effort to catch someone who was on the run for murder. One in particular , the tragic story of a little girl who was ran over during a high-speed police chase, an unnecessary risk for a minor crime of a stolen car committed by teenagers. Every life is precious, and no one should have to suffer such a loss, especially as a result of actions meant to enforce the law, not take innocent lives. We need to set a limit on high-speed police chases, particularly pursuing non-violent suspects, to prevent similar incidents.
Accidents from police car chases result in around 300 deaths annually in the U.S., where a third of the victims are innocent bystanders. We must compel our decision-makers to recognize the disproportionate danger these chases present compared to their perceived benefits. We are advocating for more sensible policies and comprehensive training for our police forces, pushing them to prioritize the safety of innocent motorists and pedestrians on the roadways, over the need to apprehend non-violent offenders immediately.
Let's call upon the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies as well as lawmakers to reassess and change the current policies regarding high-speed chases. Amplify the call for change by signing this petition. Together, let's protect innocent lives rather than gamble with them in high-risk chases. Sign this petition to demand safer policing practices now.
