END HARASSMENT NOW: tell Cambridge venues to sign the Good Night Out Campaign pledge
The Issue
We call upon the institutions listed below to sign up to the Good Night Out Campaign pledge. The Good Night Out campaign is a nationwide initiative and global network set up to tackle sexual harassment of women and LGBT+ people on nights out. The goal is to clamp down on sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism and any other kind of harassment and oppression in our night-time public spaces. This is done through commitment to a Good Night Out pledge, which enables the training of staff in how to respond to reports of sexual harassment and abuse, and builds this positive approach into existing general safety policy. It lets clients know that if they feel harassed they can find help and get on with having a safe and good night out. None of the venues listed have a GNO policy in place, and we as students of both Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University appeal to these institutions to take an explicit stand against sexual harassment and keep all of their clients safe. It is not acceptable that any individual should feel harassed, vulnerable or unsafe on a night out in Cambridge and it is time for a stronger, more united message from the institutions themselves. The CUSU women’s officer Charlotte Chorley will be meeting with all of the licensed premises on the 25th November, and we want to send a strong message with her to this meeting as students and members of the Cambridge community, that it is time for a collective commitment to ending sexual harassment once and for all.
Please sign and share this petition, and stand together against harassment and abuse in Cambridge.
