End Gillnet Fishing to Save the Vaquitas

End Gillnet Fishing to Save the Vaquitas
The Issue
I am deeply moved by the plight of vaquitas, a marine species that is on the brink of extinction. Just like every other animal, they deserve to survive and thrive in their natural habitat. The vaquita population has been decimated due to gillnet fishing, a practice that indiscriminately kills marine life including these innocent creatures.
Vaquitas are found only in Mexico's Gulf of California and are considered one of the world's most endangered marine mammals. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), there are fewer than 10 vaquitas left in the wild today. This drastic decline is primarily due to illegal gillnet fishing for another endangered fish species, the Totoaba.
While this issue may seem distant for us here in Florida, it is crucially important for our global ecosystem and biodiversity. Our oceans connect us all and what happens in one part impacts us all.
We need your help now more than ever before! By signing this petition, you're calling on local authorities and international organizations alike to take immediate action against gillnet fishing practices that threaten not just vaquitas but our entire oceanic ecosystem.
Let's stand together for these beautiful creatures who cannot speak up or fight for themselves. Sign this petition today - because every life matters!
