Over 60 of us all harmed by gambling, supported by MPs and RSPH, have written an open letter to broadcasters asking them to suspend gambling adverts during the Euros. You can read the letter and add your name to it here: https://the-bigstep.com/sign-our-open-letter.
With the upcoming European Championships taking place next month, we’re aiming for our biggest-ever Big Step: a group of over 30 people harmed by gambling will be walking all the way from Scotland to Wembley Stadium!
We are calling on all broadcasters to suspend gambling advertising during their coverage of the tournament, as reported by BBC Sport.
During the 2018 World Cup, there were 72 gambling adverts broadcast on terrestrial television, with 62 out of 66 ad breaks containing a gambling advert, with many aired before the 9pm watershed, meaning children were exposed to them.
Alongside the main walk, we’re excited to announce we’ll once again be holding a remote event for the duration of the event (June 4–13th). During this period, we’re encouraging people from all over the country to join in from their local area, contributing as many steps as possible.
Back in March we collectively walked seven million steps, and this time we’re aiming for more – every step counts! Even if you’re just walking around the park or to the shops on that weekend, please walk in solidarity with us by signing up here and your steps will count toward our total.
If you’d like to join us on the main walk, even for a day or two, please get in touch with emily@gamblingwithlives.org for a detailed breakdown of our planned route.
